A peek behind the scenes of publishing my first book — and what I learned along the way.
I can hardly believe it — my first journal is officially done and published! After redoing the cover design several times, fixing page layouts, and second-guessing fonts, I finally clicked that big Publish button on Kindle Direct Publishing.
There’s something magical about watching an idea move from imagination into an actual, physical book. When Amazon delivered the proof copy, I was so thrilled that I filmed myself opening the package. No one was home to share the moment. However, it felt amazing to see the cover I designed with “Gigi Slightly” on the front. A dream made real. OK, its just a journal, lots of lines…..but still it was fun and enlightening to go through the process. It makes me feel more confident to move toward my other, BIGGER ideas. 🙂
The process wasn’t always glamorous. There were late nights, formatting frustrations, and more than one moment where I thought, what am I doing? But finishing this journal reminded me that persistence counts more than perfection. Good is good enough. And if you don’t like things, you can change them!
Now, my little book is out in the world — ready for someone else to hold, scribble in, and maybe even cherish. It’s both thrilling and a little nerve-wracking to think about.
This is just the beginning, but today I’m letting myself pause and celebrate. I did it.
